Higher Ground Stilt Walkers

Throughout history the Stilt Dancers of Trinidad and Tobago appeared amongst costumed revelers at carnival time. Towering figures varying from traditional characters to African Gods awed spectators by their skill and mythical forms.

The Stilt dancers of the Trinidad Carnival, cousin to the famous Rio Carnival and New Orleans's Mardi Gras, owe their origins to the spectacular Stilters of West Africa.


Higher Ground takes a multidisciplinary approach to the ancient art of stilt walking. Crossing the boundaries of many styles of dance and theater to produce a wide range of stilted performances ranging from site animation to fully choreographed dance. From modern jazz to staged pieces these giants come to life through extended movements and dynamics of height and space for a charged absorbing atmosphere.

This unique art form is perpetuated through the use of visual theater skills provides a spectacle that suspends disbelief!
